Doorknob Model Rocket Kit (Estes)
Single and two stage Doorknob rockets were developed using Lacrosse and Thiokol solid propellent motors and could launch an instrument laden sounding rocket to approximately 50 miles in altitude and capture radioactive data for analysis.
This 1/5.3 scale kit from Estes is 3" in diameter and over 2 feet tall. Includes laser-cut wood fins, plastic nose cone, nylon parachute and decals.

Recommended Engines: E16-4, F15-4, F15-6 (note that we do not carry these specific Estes engines as they require Hazmat shipping, but this model should certainly be capable of flying well on several composite engines in the E and F range that we do have available); with a 24/29 adapter (not included): D12-3 (likewise this model should fly well on several 24mm composite engines)

Scissors, pencil, ruler, fine sandpaper, epoxy, carpenter’s glue, sanding block, hobby knife, masking tape, primer (white), paint (black, day glow orange, white) and clear coat (optional). Tools, construction and finishing supplies not included.
What else you'll need to fly this model:
Electronic launch system (depending on your engine choice, you may need one capable of igniting a composite engine); launch pad with 1/4" rod; recovery wadding; engines (see list of recommended engines above).
